I believe every child learns differently, and it is important to guide and encourage them to reach their potential. I am a chinese american who speaks English, Mandarin, Cantonese and German. Having grown up in a bilingual household (English and Cantonese), I have always had a fascination for languages and cultures which later prompted me to move to the US then subsequently to Switzerland. My experience abroad has allowed me to appreciate language as a window to the culture and history of the countries that speak it. That is why I agree with Jumbo Tutor's teaching principle of having native speakers to teach their mother tongues, as students learn faster when a context is added to what they are learning.

We stayed in China for a total of 14 years and then moved to Hong Kong in 2010. I am currently living in Hong Kong as a permanent resident and I am excited about the possibility of meeting some new people. I am also excited about the challenge of planning lessons, that will be personal to you, that will help develop your skills in English listening, speaking, reading and writing. I am a very enthusiastic, some people say funny and friendly person. I have a variety of interests from teaching to sports to travel to music to people. I hope to meet you soon.

NE102826 HKSAR Hello, I am Lydia from Hong Kong. I studied in the US for the past seven years and had received my bachelor degree in Psychology and am working on my master degree in Psychology specializing in Children and adolescent, and am enrolled to Master of Education program EDUHK in September. I moved back to Hong Kong last summer and had been working with kids and teenagers via different settings, such as summer camp instructor, after school program instructor, and English tutor at local high schools and education center. I love working with kids, simply because it is the most rewarding job I can think of, knowing my job would able to help kids achieve their full potential and watch them making changes and progress along the way; at the same time they motivate me to be a better person as I am a firm believer of leading by example. At the same time, I believe kids have a better success by learning through play. Not only letting the kids have a greater interest and at the same time they are more self-motivate and eager to learn.
NE102825 American I studied English at the University of Maine for my BA. Initially, an Arts and Humanities major, I soon focused on several classes related to human growth and development and teaching as a profession. I was a non-traditional student at the time and previously spent over fifteen years travelling throughout the United States and working in several different fields. Consequently, when I did return to school, I was looking for a more structured education where I could combine my life experiences - up to that point - with an English degree and teach. There was so much to the English language I wanted to know; my studies also included courses in Literary Analysis, American and British Literature, American Poetry and Anthropology. As technology was starting to play a role in every aspect of our daily lives, I would end my undergraduate English degree with a concentration in Technical Writing. Soon after receiving my undergraduate degree, I enrolled in a master's program in Information Technology Management. I wanted to take the foundational aspects of English I had learned over the past five years and see how it applied - or didn’t apply - to the IT Age. My coursework began with database management - an area I had no previous knowledge of - and found the entire program to be one of the most challenging and interesting learning experiences I have ever had. Unfortunately, I received my MS degree in March of 2008 during the global financial crisis and have never since been able to apply what I had learned. In 2010 I left the US for China where I remained for five-years teaching English in various concentrations. I taught, for example, classes in International Tourism, Hotel Management, History and Geography, Business English and IELTS. These courses were focused primarily on first and second year university students, but I have also taught Listening and Speaking classes to young learners at the kindergarten level. Both degrees gave me a greater appreciation for how English was used in the past and how it has evolved into the present in both positive and negative ways. In closing, I hold a TESOL Certification from Arizona State University. My style and approach in teaching is dependent upon the purpose and goal of the individual student or students. There are endless possibilities and subject matter that a student can pursue; learning - and teaching - is not a one-size-fits-all pursuit. Never stop learning.
NE102824 Canadian Drawing upon more than two decades of senior management experience in the nonprofit and corporate sectors across Asia and North America, David offers a unique combination of talents and humour to make a lasting impact on students’ comprehension, vocabulary and enjoyment of the English language. With two years experience and over 2,400 classroom hours in Bangkok teaching at the primary and secondary levels in both government and private schools as well as two leading private tutoring centres, David believes the learning experience should be enjoyable and ultimately inspire the student no matter their age to achieve a goal or simply master a new language. Utilising social media and live streaming apps to bring the classroom to life, David’s classes are never dull. A graduate of the University of Toronto’s Trinity College (ranked among the top 20 research institutions globally) with a BA in English, David was fortunate to have studied under such luminary faculty as Frye, Levenson, Bruckmann, and Bryden; and counted among his student “set” filmmaker Atom Egoyan and author Malcolm Gladwell.

NE10278 British I am a native speaker of English from the UK with a standard British accent. I have a master’s degree in Applied Linguistics and over 20 years’ experience teaching English to Cantonese speakers. Most of my teaching has been to adult learners and my areas of expertise are the teaching of pronunciation and writing. I am very aware of the problems Cantonese speakers have with the sounds of English and have created materials which target these sounds. In my teaching materials I use words that often cause miscommunication issues and highlight how important it is to get the sound right and demonstrate the correct way to make the sound. As a person who has always enjoyed writing, when teaching students to write I focus on the basic skills involved. Students are often taught merely to pass an exam; but I view writing as a transferrable skill that is used in all areas of life – if the skills are learned properly, they can be applied in any task. Qualifications –  Master’s Degree – Applied Linguistics (2001) – University of Wales, College Cardiff, UK. I was awarded a distinction for my dissertation which focused on the intonation patterns of English, and following further research wrote a follow up article for the Winter 2005/6 IATEFL journal ‘Speak Out’, entitled ‘Overcoming Ambiguities in Spoken English’.  Certificate in Education (2000) – University of Wales, Institute Cardiff, UK (now Cardiff Metropolitan University).
NE10276 British I first started teaching English to Cantonese speaking students in 1997 when I began working at Guangzhou University (formerly Guangzhou Teachers’ College). During my years in Guangzhou, I taught oral English, listening and writing to both English and non-English majors. As a native English teacher, I was also responsible for preparing, administering and marking exam papers. Due to my standard British accent, I was often hired by recording studios to provide the voiceovers for CDs to accompany textbooks. I also worked for Guangzhou TV, providing the voiceovers for their English news programme In 2006 I moved to Hong Kong and for almost 12 years taught English to disadvantaged children at Po Leung Kuk. This work required me to be familiar with the Hong Kong curriculum for upper primary students. In addition, I worked for a learning centre, teaching Cambridge English programmes to both primary and secondary students. Due to my many years of teaching children whose first language is Cantonese, I am familiar with the mistakes that Cantonese speaking people make when speaking English and can help them to overcome these problems. I particularly enjoy being able to help young people feel more confident in their own abilities and to express themselves in English. My aim is for a child to enjoy the learning experience. Due to a change in family circumstances, I have now moved on to online teaching and hope to spend many more years helping Cantonese speakers to improve their English.
