Gentle and patient candidate who has a passion for education, has
taught reading to primary 4, 5 and 6 pupils in a primary school in
Hong Kong for 1 school year; is an excellent French speaker; and is
also currently tutoring English to kids (Cambridge Starters, Flyers,
and KET groups) at a learning centre on a part-time basis.
In tutoring English, I follow a play-based approach, i.e. game playing
and learning, to improve the listening and speaking skills of kids.
Particularly, I focus on vocabulary and story-telling (mainly from the
Cambridge English manuals—provided by the Centre). The vocabulary includes both words from
the Cambridge manual and new words learnt from the game of the day/lesson. However, I try to
limit the amount of new material to a minimum given that the purpose of tutoring is to consolidate
what kids already know. I usually start my lesson by a warm-up game. All my games have an
objective, which I set as a target for the end of the day/lesson. I am hoping to include crafts and
songs as part of my teaching in the future.
I'm a french native and I've been teaching
French in Hong Kong for almost 3 years now.
I have a strong interest in languages and foreign
cultures. I traveled a lot over the past few years
and spend a lot of my time learning new languages and teaching mine.
I consider myself to be a passionate teacher. I
love my language and do my best to share that
love with my students.
I don't believe I'm a strict teacher but I do ask a
lot of personal work.
I tend to emphasize a lot on grammar on the
first few lessons as I want my students to acquire a strong basis and good pronunciation.
I then find daily life situations in which the student can put to good use what
he or she learned.
As the student progresses I increase the difficulty and focus more on structures and the different ways to to use the language.

I am a strong believer that being multilingual opens doors. As
learning your native tongue introduced you to the world as a child,
so too will learning a new language open your eyes to new culture,
food, people and history. My method consists of lessons designed
around listening and repetition rather than note taking and
memorization, which at times can be the reason why a student
never truly retains the new language. This is achieved by teaching
the language through dialogue and conversation which engages the
student to create memories from the lesson rather than memorizing
French can be a very intimidating and confusing language to learn.
Effective language education lies primarily in teaching languages in the very same manner students
learn their native ones. It is about identifying what we do not know so that we can understand it ;
this process involves training specific parts in our brain through repetition until this new
information becomes natural to us. Learning is also optimized through creative teaching methods,
consisting of disseminating information through fun and think-outside-the-box approaches. In
teaching, my primary concern is to identify my students’ weaknesses and provide solutions so they
move forward successfully and with a strong foundation of the material they initially struggled with.
It is also equally important to me to ensure students develop proactive and healthy learning and
study skills, which will stay with them the rest of their lives. This ensures they are always motivated
to improve their skill and knowledge base.
